Collection for Emmka

This year, we’ve reached out to ask you to let us know if you know someone we could support. We received a tip from you to help another great fighter, Emma.

Let us share Emma’s story with you.

Emmka is out of twins who were born 3 months early. Her brother is healthy, but Emmka hasn’t been so lucky. The long 20 minutes without oxygen damaged her brain. As a result, she suffers from cerebral palsy of the most severe degree and has a swallowing disorder. For a long time she was also dependent on pulmonary ventilation.

Because of this, she has a tracheostomy in place, which means that Emma does not swallow and receives food through a probe in her stomach. She constantly needs saliva suctioning and to keep her airway clear.

Emma doesn’t walk, doesn’t talk and can’t tell us when she is in pain or needs something. She is swaddled, not independent and requires constant assistance.
Her parents have managed to get Emma moving through massage and exercises. Thanks to countless rehabilitation sessions, Emmka was able to stand on her feet for the first time, albeit with support. At home, she exercises every day with pulleys and weights. As these special rehabs are very expensive, the parents try to simulate the rehabilitation environment they know from Klimkovice in the Czech Republic, where they used to exercise with Emmka.

Emmka is a tremendous fighter and we would like to spread her story to you. With your help, we want to enable her to take the next step on her challenging journey. Proceeds from the sale of the Step by Step 2025 diary and other products will go directly to Emmka. Additionally, you can support her by sending any amount to our transparent account. Details can be found in the Collections section.
Thank you for being part of the Step by Step family and for helping us.
